Late

I was on holiday for 6 days, that's my excuse.

What happened

A lot of master thesis work, but at least I think I'm close to having some result. I hope.

Holiday

Small holiday in Bochum and Düsseldorf with parents. Visiting familiy, biking around.

Getting around

Having a bike on holiday turns out to be quite advantantageous even if DB makes it very difficult to travel with it. Originally I wanted to only stay for 4 days but on sunday afternoon there were absolutely no trains back home. On monday there were some but only with impossibly short changeover times. Officially from the view of DB a train is counted as late if it is more than 6 minutes behind schedule, so why the fuck do their apps suggest connecting trains with 4 minute of between????? The train could be on time according to your metrics and I still wouldn't be able to get my connections.

On the way there the train was actually pretty on time. Until it decided to not stop at the next 4 stations and drive directly to the final destination, which was not where we wanted to go. Ah well the S-Bahn was able to take us there.

Bochum

We had a hotel directly at the main station, which was good for our back, because of not carrying things far, but bad for our sleep, because of people partying till late at night.

Fun show, bad story.

Düsseldorf

Surprisingly nice city. Visting family also very nice, don't get many opportunities to do so currently.

Media

Policy of transience. Seems like a very good policy. I also have a few workflows that I think are following this policy.

• My filesystem gets wiped on each reboot, apart from a few specific folder.
• Most config files get replaced on each reboot/nixos deploy.
• I always reboot my computer at least every day

Some things I don't do yet but I feel like I want to, for example shell history. I have a long shell history that contains things I regularly need, but it's always annyoing to use, making sure it's the newest version, making sure I have the right environment, ensuring there are no secrets. Maybe I just have to bite the bullet on day, move the things I need to scripts and remove the rest.

But for some things I quite like my currentl workflow, I use browsertabs as read later, bookmarks and context storage, and I don't think I'll change that anytime soon, it works well for me.
